Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge
You may be asking yourself, why stay in Talkeetna? I can give you several reasons!
First, Talkeetna is located about halfway between Ted Stevens Airport in Anchorage and Denali National Park, making it a great stop.
Did you know that the TV Series Northern Exposure (1990-1995) shown in the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska, was loosely based on Nagley's Store located in downtown Talkeetna, Alaska? The show was actually filmed in Roslyn, Washington, just a few short miles from my first Park Ranger job at Lake Easton State Park. I even had my retirement party from the State of Washington at the Brick Saloon in Roslyn!
I also love the views of Denali from Talkeetna, also known as Mount McKinley. This beautiful mountain is only visible 20-40% of the time, so consider yourself lucky to see it.
Talkeetna is a fun, quirky town with several things to do, like meeting Aurora, the cat mayor of Talkeetna! You read right; the town initially elected Aurora's brother Stubbs mayor until he sadly died in 2017. Aurora was then named the town's mayor and has been ever since. Keep an eye out at Nagley's General Store, and you may see her. There are also several restaurants and the Denali Brewpub/Denali Brewing Company in town.
