Long Pine Key Campground is located on the Gulf Coast of South Florida about an hour south of Miami.
Simply take Florida's Turnpike south and you will turn towards the park at the south end of Homestead Florida.
Visitors wishing to visit Dry Tortugas National Park afterward will continue south instead of turning and it will take them to the overseas highway along the Florida Keys ending in Key West.
Follow the road signs to the park and the first thing you will run into is the main park entrance with the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center on your right.
Long Pine Key Campground is centrally located between the southern entrance and the Flamingo area of the park where most of the park's activities can be found.
You can visit the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center as you enter the park and/or visit the Flamingo Visitor Center (open seasonally) to the south.
There is an abundance of hiking trails in the area as well as several Everglades boat tours that include airboat tours outside the park, a backcountry boat tour that takes you through mangrove forests, and a Florida Bay tour where you can see anything from Flamingos to dolphins.
Make sure to make boat tour reservations through Flamingo Adventures

Insect repellent is always a great idea outdoors, especially around any body of water.
We use Permethrin Spray on our clothes before our park trips. Please read my article on preventing biting insects while enjoying the outdoors.
Sunscreen - I buy environmentally friendly sunscreen whenever possible because you inevitably pull it out at the beach.
Bring your water bottle and plenty of water with you. Plastic water bottles are not sold in the park.
Sunglasses - I always bring sunglasses with me. I personally love Goodr sunglasses because they are lightweight, durable, and have awesome National Park Designs from several National Parks like Joshua Tree, Yellowstone, Hawaii Volcanoes, Acadia, Denali, and more!
Click here to get your National Parks Edition of Goodr Sunglasses!
Binoculars/Spotting Scope - These will help spot birds and wildlife and make them easier to identify. We tend to see waterfowl in the distance, and they are always just a bit too far to identify them without binoculars.
