Flamingo Campground - Everglades National Park
There are two beautiful campgrounds in Everglades National Park, the Flamingo Campground and the Long Pine Key Campground.
The Flamingo Campground is a large front country campground with 274 campsites, 65 of which are suitable for RV's.
The campground is broken down into several areas.
The T Loop is an RV campsite loop, 41 of which have electrical hookups (1-41).
The A Loop is tent camping only with 55 tent sites and a group site. Both the T Loop and the A Loop have restrooms, showers, sanitary pump out, and water.
The B Loop is tent camping only with 59 tent sites.
The Bayside Campground has an additional 30 tent sites in an open field with phenomenal views of Florida Bay! Campers here park in a parking lot and hike out to their campsites.
There are also 20 Eco Tents located next to the Bayside Campground. These safari-like tents are on a raised platform and even have a queen or two double beds, 110 electricity, lights and a fan!
Activities in the Flamingo area include a seasonal visitor center, seasonal ranger-led programs, hiking trails, canoe trails, saltwater fishing, boat tours, boat rentals, canoe rentals, and bike rentals.
There is also an incredible sunset from the Bayside tent site campground near the eco-tents.
Park Ranger John Pro Tip:
Two things to never forget in Everglades National Park are sunscreen and insect repellent.
Both the sun and Mosquitoes are abundant in South Florida, especially in the summer/rainy season which runs from from approximately May 15 to October 15 each year.
Tips for protecting yourself from mosquitoes include wearing long pants, and long-sleeved shirts and applying bug spray with DEET. Permethrin can be applied to certain fabrics and also helps to deter mosquitoes.
